What is type 90?

Type 90 typically refers to the TK-X, which is a fourth-generation main battle tank that is in service with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. It was developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a replacement for the aging Type 61 and Type 74 tanks.

The Type 90 features advanced technologies such as a hydropneumatic suspension system for improved mobility and a 120mm smoothbore gun for increased firepower. It has a crew of three, including a commander, gunner, and driver.

The tank has a combat weight of around 50 tons and is powered by a 10-cylinder diesel engine, giving it a top speed of 70 km/h on roads. It is also equipped with composite armor and explosive reactive armor for enhanced protection against enemy fire.

The Type 90 has seen limited production and has primarily been used by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in various training exercises and deployments. While it is considered to be a capable and modern main battle tank, it has faced criticism for its high cost and relatively small production numbers compared to other tanks in service around the world.
